   5. 355 Refractive Index Detector                   
 

 

 

 

The Varian ProStar 355 refractive index (RI) detector is engineered to be the most stable and sensitive analytical RI detector in the laboratory today. This universal detector is ideal for the analysis of non-absorbing compounds such as polymers, hydrocarbons, carbohydrates, alcohols, and fatty acids. The ProStar 355 detector has excellent thermal stability and automated reference flushing to meet the most demanding analytical applications.

The ProStar 355 combines low noise with active flow cell temperature control to provide a low drift baseline, resulting in outstanding detection limits. Flow cell thermostating eliminates 99.9% of the temperature effect on the RI baseline.

The ProStar 363 provides the highest sensitivity by using a continuous Xenon lamp. Continuous lamps generate a significantly more stable signal than flashlamps. Consequently, drift and noise are dramatically reduced.
The unique optical design of the ProStar 363 permits simultaneous measurement of both emission and excitation signals, thus accurately correcting for lamp fluctuations. The combination of the lamp and optics provide the quietest signal possible, resulting in more reproduc
